Dr Daksha Parmar is presently working as an Associate Professor at the School of Public Health, D Y Patil Deemed to be University, Nerul, Navi Mumbai. She has previously worked as an Assistant Professor of Development Studies at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences and also as an Associate Faculty at the Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), Assam. She is a recipient of the prestigious Dr Yusuf Hamied Faculty Fellowship for the year 2022 and visited the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, USA in April 2023

Dr Parmar’s primary research interest is in Health Systems and Health Policy, with a focus on Human Resources in Health in India. She has completed three WHO consultancy projects with the World Health Organisation (WHO-India Office, New Delhi) while working at IIT Guwahati. These consultancy projects focus on the primary health care systems in the states of Assam and Odisha. The latest WHO project report submitted in January 2024 was titled “Evaluation of the Urban Public Health System in Odisha.” The second report that was published in November 2024 by the WHO includes Health Labour Market Analysis for Assam. The third report, published in collaboration with NHM Assam and WHO, is entitled as Build Back Better: Role of Frontline Health Workers in Managing the COVID-19 pandemic and delivery of Essential Health Services in Assam was published in Assam 2022. Dr Parmar has also published chapters and peer reviewed journal articles in the areas of Public Health, Birth Control and Contraception, Communicable Diseases, Diabetes and Women’s Health.
