Dr. Sirazul Ameen Sahariah is a public health physician with over two decades of experience in community-based public health initiatives. He holds an MD in Community Medicine and an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK. His career spans across academic, research, and implementation roles with a strong focus on maternal and child health (MCH), nutrition, adolescent health, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and public health program management.

Following his MD, Dr. Sahariah worked in rural and semi-rural settings in Haryana as a Research Officer and later as a Senior Resident at AIIMS, New Delhi, where he gained significant experience in teaching, community-based research, and public health program implementation.

One of the most notable milestones in his career was leading the Mumbai Maternal Nutrition Project (MMNP) — a large-scale food-based Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) involving over 6,500 women across 61 urban slum centers in Mumbai. As team leader of a 200-member multidisciplinary workforce, Dr. Sahariah was instrumental in planning, training, execution, and stakeholder coordination. His ability to effectively communicate and engage with communities, regulatory bodies, and government agencies was central to the project’s success.

During his MSc at LSHTM, he deepened his expertise in epidemiology and global public health, while continuing to guide his field team remotely via digital platforms. His international exposure laid a strong foundation for informed decision-making and strategic planning in areas such as maternal and child health, NCDs, and nutrition.

Dr. Sahariah has continued his work in public health through collaborations with program managers across India and multiple African countries, with a sustained focus on child and adolescent health. His contributions are reflected in numerous research publications, conference presentations, and active participation in global health workshops.

In his role at MAMTA Health Institute for Mother and Child, he managed technical and financial aspects of public health programs, fostered partnerships with donors, and led project implementation with a strong emphasis on monitoring and evaluation. His current engagement with Aga Khan Health Services, India involves work on school health, cancer prevention, tobacco control, NCD screening and treatment, palliative care, and COVID-19 vaccination. He is also actively involved in research and the training of DNB students.

Dr. Sahariah combines strong leadership skills with academic rigor and hands-on experience in program design, implementation, evaluation, and financial oversight. His collaborative approach with national and international partners has been key to driving impactful, community-centered health interventions.
