RESEARCH

After completing Her Ph. D under the DAE- Mumbai University Scheme from BARC, Mumbai, Dr. Sunita has worked on utilizing DNA fingerprinting, genotype cataloging, diversity, phylogeny, and evolutionary analysis of both microbes and Plants. She is also experienced in characterizing abiotic stress-induced osmoregulators, proteins to explore their potential role in stress tolerance and resistance. Dr. Sunita singh is adept at isolating, characterizing, and identifying microbes from diverse niches to analyze and enhance bioactive components for environmental sustainability and health-related applications. As coordinator, she initiated the hydroponic cultivation of Meghalayan Chilli at the Polyhouse facility in collaboration with Higronics, Himedia to optimize hydroponic parameters to enhance the yield and quality of this high-value crop. In collaboration with The International Natural Product Sciences Taskforce (INPST), her research also explores the phytochemical composition of G. glabra and its potential medicinal applications. She has successfully Guided 4 Ph. D research thesis in her tenure at the School. She is also mentor to students at the IWSA facility.
Dr. Sunita has authored 30 research papers in peer-reviewed international journals, two book chapters, several GenBank submissions, probe submission and secured one copyright for a liquid biofertilizer formulation. Her notable research contributions include:
• Genetic variations in Enterobacteriaceae to understand their evolutionary relationships, pathogenicity, and antibiotic resistance patterns.
• Genetic diversity in Coccinia grandis (Ivy Gourd) to support breeding and conservation efforts.
• Characterization of novel marine bacteria and resilient plants to identify bioactive compounds with therapeutic benefits
• Bioremediation studies on microbial removal of and dyes.
• Impact of various soil amendments on the growth performance of water spinach under both soilless and soil-based conditions.
• Proteome Analysis of Luffa acutangula under Induced Salt Stress.
• Utilize bioorganic waste to create microbial consortia for value-added products, enhancing plant growth through the development of plant growth-promoting bacteria, either as single strains or consortia, to mitigate stress in crops.
