About the
Program

The D.Y. Patil Deemed to be University’s School of Creative Studies shall offer a Diploma in Digital Fashion Design, a one-year programme that teaches fashion design for the way the industry now works, on screen before it exists in cloth. Learners build core design fundamentals in sketching, silhouette, colour, textiles and garment construction, and then move into the digital toolchain of 3D garment simulation, digital pattern making, digital textile and print design, and virtual fitting and sampling.

The programme also covers the emerging demand side of digital fashion, including virtual try-on for e-commerce, digital garments for games and avatars, fashion film, and look book and campaign production shot in-house at DYP Interactives, the university’s production studio.

Evening (weekday) and weekend batches suit boutique owners and working professionals as much as full-time learners, with batches commencing in September and October. The programme closes with three months on a live industry project with a brand, export house or studio partner, ending in a full digital collection portfolio.

Programme Educational Objectives

Learners of this programme will:

PEO1: Practise as digital fashion designers capable of taking a concept from research and illustration through to a simulated, production-ready garment

PEO2: Operate professional 3D garment and digital sampling workflows to the standards used by brands, export houses and e-commerce businesses

PEO3: Apply sustainability, costing and sourcing considerations to design and sampling decisions

PEO4: Build an independent label or progress into specialist digital fashion, virtual try-on and immersive apparel roles

Programme Specific Outcomes

Upon completion, learners will be able to:

PSO1: Develop a design concept through trend research, moodboards, illustration, silhouette and colour into a coherent collection

PSO2: Draft digital patterns and simulate garments in CLO3D and Marvelous Designer, including avatar setup, fit, and fabric physics

PSO3: Author digital prints, textures and materials, and prepare tech packs and production documentation for manufacture

PSO4: Produce and present a digital collection through rendered lookbooks, fashion film and campaign imagery for brand and e-commerce use

Program
Scope

The Diploma in Digital Fashion Design prepares learners for roles that Indian brands, export houses and e-commerce businesses are actively hiring for as sampling shifts from physical to digital. Virtual sampling reduces cost, waste and turnaround time, and the resulting demand for CLO3D and 3D garment skills has outpaced the supply of trained designers.

Graduates are equipped for digital design and virtual sampling roles in apparel brands, export houses and e-commerce platforms, for textile and print design, and for avatar and in-game apparel work in the games and immersive media sector. The programme also equips learners to launch and run an independent label with a digitally produced collection and campaign.

The closing three months are spent on a live industry project with a brand, export house or studio partner, ending in a full digital collection portfolio. Portfolio assistance is a graded deliverable covering both the digital collection and how it is presented, so learners leave with work in the format that brands and export houses review.
