Objectives

The Master of Public Policy (MPP) programme is designed to develop highly skilled, globally competent policy professionals capable of addressing complex social, economic, and environmental challenges. It aims to provide students with a strong interdisciplinary foundation by integrating knowledge from policy science, economics, sociology, psychology, and anthropology. The programme focuses on building analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills required for evidence-based policymaking. It also emphasizes training in policy evaluation, monitoring, and advocacy, while fostering leadership qualities and ethical decision-making. Through experiential learning, including field engagement and policy labs, students are prepared to understand policy processes deeply and contribute effectively to policy design, implementation, and governance.

Programme

The scope of the MPP programme is broad and professionally oriented, aligning with global standards while being rooted in Indian policy contexts. It offers a well-balanced curriculum that combines theoretical understanding with empirical research and practical exposure. Students gain insights into real-world policy challenges through field immersion, internships, and case-based learning. The programme allows specialization in key areas such as Health Policy, Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability, and Digital Technologies and Media Policy. By blending global perspectives with local relevance, the programme equips students to work across diverse sectors and develop domain-specific expertise, making them capable of contributing to policy formulation and analysis at national and international levels.

Duration & Pedagogy

The MPP programme is a two-year full-time course structured across four semesters, with a total of 80 credits. The pedagogy is interdisciplinary and practice-oriented, combining classroom lectures with case studies, empirical research, field visits, internships, and policy action labs. Students engage in both individual and group assignments designed to simulate real-world policy challenges. The programme includes a strong research component, culminating in a capstone project and internship in the final semester. Teaching methods emphasize experiential learning, critical reflection, stakeholder interaction, and exposure to practitioners and experts, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of policy processes along with the development of practical skills.

Eligibility Criteria

The programme is open to candidates from diverse academic backgrounds, requiring a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks. The admission process follows a multi-stage selection procedure, beginning with an online application that assesses academic and professional achievements. Candidates with valid scores from aptitude tests such as CAT, CLAT, GRE, or GMAT are given preference. Shortlisted applicants are then invited for group discussions and personal interviews, after which final selections are made. This rigorous selection process ensures the admission of motivated and capable students suited for the demands of the programme.
